I’m done with the first block for both of these now.M208 – I got 100% for TMA1 part 1 – really happy with that. Part 2 was (unsurprisingly) a bit more difficult; I’ve just finished it, and I think my main weakness is equivalence relations. I just couldn’t put together a proof at all on whether $$sim1$$ in the TMA question was symmetric.
Thankfully, I was able to prove which of the relations was an equivalence one anyway, so I think at the most I’ll be dropping 2 or 3 marks for that question. Overall, I’m confident of getting a Pass 1 or a high Pass 2 on the TMA.MST209 – I had my first tutorial yesterday, unfortunately I had to leave part way through for a hospital appointment. Still haven’t had all of TMA1 part 1 back – but our tutor let us see what he had marked so far – which I had 100% on too.
Mathematical Modeling Example Problems
I just finished this this afternoon.The question on implicit differentiation was a nightmare. It’s not really explained well in the course materials, so I did a bit of web searching and I’m confident I’ve worked out how to do it, the particular case was just a beast of a question. I’m unconvinced that it’s only worth 4 marks (either that, or it’s a lot easier than I made it and I’ve done it a really complicated way.)Liking what I’ve done on the course so far, Unit 1 was a nice little refresher of various things; but I do need to do a bit more work on complex numbers before I move onto Unit 2 properly.
I’ve dipped my toe into U2 a little bit, dabbling with the stuff around Euler’s method. Unit 3 scares me, and Unit 4 looks like it should be a nice change of pace from the masses of calculus in the first three units.Going well so far. Tagged:, Posted by Kevin. Well, I’m ahead of even the fairly advanced schedule I’ve set myself.TMA02 (due 20th of January) and TMA03 (due 24th of March) are both done – well, all bar my adding a quick graph sketch from Question 1 of TMA3 onto the final print outs. I’m going to take a bit of time once TMA2 for B120 is done and do a thorough check over of both of them for silly errors – these happen more than I’d like, I think because of the process of transferring the paper notes onto LaTeX and then checking on screen. I need to get into the habit of checking on paper for all of them.That’s Block C of MST121 all done with the exception of writing my notes out a bit neater, which is mostly a copying job, and making sure that there’s no relevant information I could take from the model solutions and put into my notes. That’s maybe an hour or two’s work at the most.

The next focus is doing some kind of job for my B120 TMA, and then it’s onto Block D – the probability work that I’ve been looking forward to all course long.I’ve done a bit of looking forward at my materials for M208 – it looks interesting, and it’s definitely going to be an intellectual challenge. No sign of the MST209 materials yet – but the course website opens on the 4th (conveniently, when I’m due to be finished with the B120 assignment, so I can have a bit of a browse online then.)And now, off to fake-mas with the friends.
